Here are my rankings which are based on the RPI formula below. I started fooling around with this a couple years ago with the NFL and D2 football (go WCU!).

Team's winning percentage (25%), its opponents' winning percentage (50%), and the winning percentage of those opponents' opponents (25%). A home win counts as 0.6 win, while a road win counts as 1.4 wins.

As of 10/17/2007
RPI rank RPI% Team
0.585 Minnesota
0.575 Carolina
0.569 St. Louis
0.55 Ottawa
0.547 Chicago
0.545 San Jose
0.541 Washington
0.538 Philadelphia
0.533 Columbus
0.533 Colorado
0.53 NY Rangers
0.52 New Jersey
0.52 Phoenix
0.514 NY Islanders
0.511 Boston
0.51 Tampa Bay
0.5 Florida
0.496 Montreal
0.476 Edmonton
0.471 Detroit
0.47 Toronto
0.469 Vancouver
0.469 Calgary
0.467 Pittsburgh
0.441 Buffalo
0.436 Anaheim
0.419 Nashville
0.406 Dallas
0.401 Los Angeles
0.397 Atlanta

While the Flyers are 4-1, their opponents are 10-20 and that hurts. Opponents' opponents are 95-74.
