My 13 year old son plays AAA hockey at the Bantam Major level. Last night at practice, during a weird drill, he fell backwards on his skate and broke his ankle at the growth plate. Shouldn't the boot of the skate prevented that from happening? I have never scrimped on skates, in fact, he skates in the CCM Vectors 10.0. The Ovechkins. After the shock has worn off, I am just wondering how this could have happened. He is two months minimum off the ice, which just so sucks. And, of course we still have to pay our fees, which amount to over $5000.00. Just curious if any of you have ever seen this happen.
The exact same thing happened to me when I was 15, I broke my ankle at the growth plate during a game, I fell akwardly. A skate can't prevent that kind of injury, I also thought that it should have in the beginning but they told me it couldn't have.
