the word crapshoot is defined as, "something (as a business venture) that has an unpredictable outcome"
i think that is exactly what the nhl draft is, yes nhl teams spend tons of money, time and effort looking at propsects, interviewing them, checking their health status, and trying to pry into their head and make sure they can handle the NHl, but every player drafted is just drafted, period. where they go from there is pretty unpredicatble, look ta RJ umberger, blackburn, or malhotra, or tyutin, or brendl. all of these players were drafted and clearly did unpredictable things or had unpredictable things, blackie looked to be our goalie of the future, know his status is unknown for more than a year. look at brendl? he was suppossed to be nhl material and a goalscorer, the guy hasnt done jack? look at umberger, u think he planned on holding out and not playing competitively for a year? id say thats unpredictable to me

there is no sure thing in the nhl draft at all, so in that sense crapshoot is a pretty accurate word to use
