In my book, a hockey player should be able to....
Receive a pass
The rest it depends what the team wants the player to do.
Play on the board.....see Gretzky or Lemieux or Beliveau or Lafleur or Bossy
Defensive play...You can teach that to any player see Jacques Lemaire
Intensity..... You can tell, it is not because someone is yapping see Tucker that is more intense then Bulis who is not a yapper
Physical play....Should not be afraid to got in front of the net to score
Leadership How can you tell....
Now, is skating more important than scoring? Again in my book, to be able to put the puck in the net is the most important thing for a player on the first line. Then you have the rest. Now, is Perreault scoring these days? No, then you remove him....Is Bulis scoring these days? No, then you remove him.
