There has to be something said....

for Messier being able to win a Cup in NY, when so many others failed. The last seven years tends to blur the greatness of his leadership. And, remember at key junctures of the Cup run, Messier new how to step up his leadership - Game Six...right before Game Seven against the Canucks, when Keenan had practically lost the team, and Messier exerted hi into the speech that saved the season and won the Cup. Messier was the first power center. He didn't stick and run like Bobby Clarke. He threw the necessary hit - remember Game Two against the Debbies, when he blasted Scott Stevens?, - or him cross-checking Gilmour. He fought his own battles when necessary - him taking on the likes Ulf Samyelsson and Darius Kasparitis, hell, even Jason Arnott. And, for a goalie, was there anything as intimidating as mess coming down the off-wing, pumping his left, and firing top corner? Comparing Mess to TGO and Mario is like comparing apples to bananas.
