Kovalev has to EARN a spot on the 1st two lines. This is the Montreal Canadiens, not the Flin Flon Raiders. You EARN a spot. It was that way with Bowman as a coach, it was that way when Burns was here, and it's that way with Gainey/Julien. If you think Gainey doesn't approve of the moves Julien makes, you're a lost cause. They're on the same page.
Can't say I disagree with the notion that at the NHL level, players must earn their spots on the roster/ice time. However, the playoff atmosphere is contagious, so who knows, a player as talented as Kovalev might catch fire. He might start on the fourth line, but If things go well, I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up along side Koivu and Zed.
