That's just not healthy and it's bad for your performance.

It's different in other sports, however. When I rowed crew, our coach had us put our water in one place before practice and it wasn't until after our run, and then again after real practice that you could get to it. Of course, that makes more sense because it's not like you can get a swig of water in the middle of a race and you can't carry the bottle with you when guys are shaving their heads and hardly eating to lose weight for races.

But for hockey especially, you can get to the bench after being on the ice for a minute, get to some water, and get ready to go for the next shift. Water also speeds up your metabolism, even when you're not skating.
