Let us all not forget, aside from his 3 Cups:

1996: missed the playoff (first and last time since 1970 that the defending Cup champs missed the playoffs the year after winning. Jacques Lemaire, NJ's coach in '96 was on that '70 Montreal team.)
1997: meltdown vs. NY Rangers (last time the Devils lost a series in 5 games 2nd round)
1998: meltdown vs. upstart Senators (Ottawa as an 8 seed, won in 6 games)
1999: meltdown vs. Pittsburgh (blew 3-2 series lead after seizing momentum when Pittsburgh had a 2-1 series lead. Lost game 7 at home, beaten by an 8 seed for 2nd straight year
2002: went down 2-0 vs. Carolina, eventually losing game 6 at home 1-0 to end the series (facing 2 different goalies in Irbe and Weekes)

This team does have a history of falling apart. They are separated by 3 Stanley Cups though. The difference with all of these teams is that Scott Stevens was in the lineup.
