Darz, in answer to what you really were talking about, I think a lot of posters, fans, nedia, players have decided that they can write the unwritten code. Nothing bad happened before the 90's and men were men and everything got settled. It's not quite the case. The old Flyers were often guilty of 3-4 guys jumpimg a skilled guy like Salming and if you ddidn't have 3-4 guys willing to leave the bench, too bad. This code is a recent thing, it makes for good topics on Off the Record and it plays out well on sports radio. The great sports moral authority decides that Ribeiro's actions are against the code of honor that they've established and he must be chastised. The fact is, a lot of fans use any opening to promote their agenda. I'm a Leaf baiter at times, it's in my blood, I don't like the way they go about their business at times and will be harsher on the Tuckers and Roberts. When Ribeiro goes down and does whatever he did, the Hab haters of the world's eyes light up and salivate at the fun they'll have at our expense. "I'd never have a guy like that on my team" Gimme a break, if Jeffrey Dahmer could score thirty and check his man [check, not eat] the Bruins,Leafs and Habs would have a bidding war.
Diving, trapping the ball, spitballs, o line holding, faking, goes on everywhere. Hockey lately seems to cosider itself on a higher macho plane than other sports. From a personal point of view, I cringed a bit watching Ribs the other might. I'll be happy though if he puts up 70 points next year.
