Sometimes if im REALLY feeling like garbage ill eat a banana 70 minutes before a game as well.
At 22, im currently the best shape of my life..with that diet and drink...ive never been tired in the 3rd period yet and give 110% each shift.....
Banana is probably the last thing to eat, they generally cause you to crash.
Try pasta, but not too close, add a little protein like some turkey in there so that you don't spike sugar. Normally I mix it up before a game, but generally something sensible like veggies and chicken. Adding meat (not too much) gives you what I like to call a "drippy faucet" which is basically prolongs the carbs instead of spiking your sugar and crashing.
