While Vinny's pure offensive talent is superior to Koivu's, I think Koivu is the better overall player. Everyone tends to underestimate Koivu's defensive play when in fact he's a great defensive player and probably one of the better complete all-around centres in the league. Koivu is a guy who you want to be on the ice no matter what the situation, whether it be killing a penalty, or trying to regain/protect a lead late in the game. And when it comes to playoffs, he knows how to take his game to the next level.

Vinny's a really good player, but at this point Koivu's the better overall player. If Vinny starts to work harder on a consistent basis, he may become better than Koivu but whether he has the work ethic to do it remains to be seen.
