You have to remember that McDonagh is an 18 year old that came right out of high school and played this season in possibly the best conference in the NCAA. Erik Johson was chosen #1 overall in 2006 and had less goals than McDonagh as a freshman for Minnesota. I know Johnson had far more assists but Johnson was hyped up a lot more as an offensive Dman and received a lot more PP opportunity. My point is just that it is tough for freshman Dmen to pile up the points. Most of those schools have experienced Seniors and Juniors (fully developed men) in those key roles. I expect McDonagh's offensive numbers to improve as a 19 year old sophomore next year as he'll be a year older and I also expect him to make Team USA at the WJC.
