Coaches should have fairly limited impact on drafting. You draft the BPA in this league, no matter what. Why draft a player your coach needs today when he won't be ready for 2-3 years?

The only reason a coach hire before the draft would be useful is because it would allow the coach to have input on which current roster players can be moved for draft picks, if any. But even that's dicey since the coach would be making decisions without first hand knowledge of the players involved.

I think Sather's working on Quenville and Martin, but I don't think anyone's in a huge rush with the lockout coming and the playoffs still going.
