Okay here is the original thinking on why go after briere??

Briere and Heatley have Chemistry, anyone who have seen the two play together in the Worlds against top level competition has no doubt that this is true. So Atlanta could play them together.

You then move Savard back to Kovalchuk's line. Weren't they together at times before Heatley came back??? I'm not sure i don't see a lot of thrasher games.

This gives you two dynamic scoring lines, and creates matchup problems for the other teams the same way tampa has created problems all year with Lecav-St.Louis and Richards-Modin-Stillman. Most teams have one really good checking line, and one good shutdown defence pair. So if you are a coach of an opposing team and know atlanta is gonna play these two lines, which line gets your second best defensive players???
