I used to have the same problem, and it's actually just a matter of rolling your wrists over in your follow-through

Point the toe of your blade low at the net so that the face of your blade is facing the ice as well. It's basically "rolling your wrists over" and it takes a while to become habit. Most people take a shot and follow-through like a golf swing.

I'm not saying an open/closed face has no effect, but if you get the technique down, you can keep shots high/low with any curve. I think it's about 75% technique, 25% curve.
