Its not a myth, more reps will define your muscles more than give it mass.
I guess i can agree that it is a bit of a myth though, because what will really decide whether you gain mass or get cut is your diet.
Get cut is a high protein low carb diet..and mass is the other way around.

But if you do the high protein low carb intake diet, you'll get better result from high reps.
