WTK, it's fine to hate Bettman, it's kind of a Canadian bonding experience, but why in this instance ? The RSL wants to become a big time league,evolve into a situation where the NHL isn't the only realistic choice for the best players. Signing fa's is an obvious move. The RSL has no reason to not sign available players.

The guys you mention have expired contracts. While it's a bitter pill to swallow when you've watched the long development period, these guys are free to pursue their careers in the country or league of their choosing. We make good points on why we think they'll stay, but it's their choice.

Now there are some that think that a lot of this talk is smoke and mirrors as the attendance figures and $ situation of most of this league isn't as rosy as being portrayed. Ron Reush spoke extensively about this. I think it depends on the agent to a degree. Is a long term contract as enforceable there as here ?
