Love the 'ish' on the end of that.

Lots to compare - colonial cities, lots of important history, fabulous parks and museums, quirky and fun local culture. Economically lots of shipping, many excellent universities. Arts and entertainment people out on the streets at all hours, new and different restaurants. Residentially many varied neighborhoods some very very old. That's the main thing for me - Montreal has kept its European feel more than maybe any big city in NA, and while Philadelphia is very European for a US city, well, US cities have a bad habit of bulldozing their best neighborhoods.

The thing about Philly is that the city is still on its way up and somewhat fragmented, so you have to really spend time exploring it in order to appreciate all of this.

And, you know, I really haven't spent enough time doing that in Montreal yet. Only, let's see, maybe three weeks total?
