I was born in New Brunswick, the son of a Red Wings fan, so I had no natural allegiance.

As a very small child, my first NHL memory is going to see a Leafs game, against the Minnesota North Stars and a young guy named Damphousse lined up with his back to me on left wing. I remember being very impressed that his name stretched down his arms.

He became my favorite player.

Still quite young, I became an Oiler fan when he went out West.

Then he went to Montreal, and I became a Montreal fan. They won the Cup soon after, that sealed the deal.

Of course, by the time he left, I was fully indoctrinated for life.
