Essentially Gillis is saying that the team's failures last year were not Vigneault's fault, therefore it was the GM for not giving him the tools to work with.
It would be difficult to justify firing Vigneault in the coming year, unless AV fails to produce with a more talented team. If the Canucks go into the next season with essentially the same roster, Gillis will look like a fool if he fires AV after signing the extension.
Spot on. It definitely does put a lot of pressure on Gillis. I just hope it isn't too much and that he doesn't screw up because of it.
