Changing from right shot to left shot?

As soon as I turned the stick around, while it felt akward, my right hand still tried to do the work, and I immediatly could tell the difference in the responsiveness of the stick.
I realized the same thing about a year ago in a hockey class. I'd been stickhandling incorrectly for the first 12 years of my playing career, basically using both hands at the same time. Since then I've made a conscious effort to only use my top (left) hand, and I've improved dramatically. My shot is already quite strong, so now with better stickhandling I see no way that it would be worth it to switch to the left after so much time playing. It just feels way to weird trying a lefty.
