At that point I doubt we'll be able to keep him unless we get him locked up for cheap this year. In theory we can, but it would be a bit difficult. We'd have to hope Caputi, Veilleux, and CPZ all turn into top-6 players by then so we can save on the front end; Staal would eat up most of that money. In theory, something like

Caputi-Crosby-Hossa
CPZ-Malkin-Sykora
Talbot-Staal-Kennedy
Veilleux-Stone-(Filewich?)

could be feasible, IF Staal signs a reasonable contract, and it would even leave a bit of money to add a 2nd pairing D. Something like:

Whitney-Orpik
X-Letang
Scuderi (who may very well stay for a while cheap)-Goligoski
Strait

and then:
Fleury-whomever

Which would probably leave us by then, according to my calculations from the other thread, somewhere between 2m and 4m for reserves+cushion, depending on how people's contracts work out.
