Regarding Kiprusoff, some may not remember but he was handed the starting job in san jose 2 years ago when Nabokov held out during contract talks. Both Kipper and Toskala played very poorly as did the sharks in general. This may have had much to do with the retirement of Gary Suter and handing the job to Stuart and Jillson, while Rathje and Hannan were still developing. Kiprusoff had something like an 879 save percentage.
He played in 20 games - and by no means was he handed the starting job.... He didn't play well, but Kiprusoff was a known commodity for some time buried in SJ. Heck, Neil Smith even attempted to trade for him in '99.
