Actually this is quite typical of Finns working abroad, they mostly come back when their children are in school age. I think it is pretty much the same for expats from any country (to any country), it is not that they don't appreciate the place they are at, it is just that when they settle down they would rather settle down at home. Would be different for someone from some dysfunctional third world country, but quality of life wise US vs. Europe is a matter of taste really.
