I'd like a yeah or nay from a Caps, Sens, & Kings fan for the two proposals below.

I think some of the Caps fans are out to lunch here. There were only 4 really good players on the team: Lang, Jagr, Gonchar and Kolzig. Now there is one left.
a) Kolzig is a good goalie but he isn't a great goalie. His play off record is mediocre, in a few series he's only made it out of the 1st rnd once. And some of those teams were pretty good. That is Cloutier-like.
2003 Lost to Tampa Bay, 4-2, Eastern Conference quarterfinals
2001 Lost to Pittsburgh, 4-2, Eastern Conference quarterfinals
2000 Lost to Pittsburgh, 4-1, Eastern Conference quarterfinals
1998 Defeated Boston, 4-2, Eastern Conference quarterfinals
Defeated Ottawa, 4-1, Eastern Conference semifinals
Defeated Buffal, 4-2, Eastern Conference finals
Lost to Detroit, 4-0, in Stanley Cup finals
1996* Lost to Pittsburgh, 4-2, Eastern Conference quarterfinals
1995* Lost to Pittsburgh, 4-3, Eastern Conference quarterfinals
* was this Kolzig?
b) Kolzig is eating up a lot of money.
c) Lets say he wins the caps 5 more games than a replacement goalie. Big deal, they still miss the playoffs and now they get a much worse pick to go with it.
They aren't going to make the playoffs with or without Kolzig, so why not get what they can? Why chuck away a decent draft pick, $6m and drop from top 1-4 to 4-8 just to be stubborn about his value.
