Did they get anything back for him in the deal, No. But who else was going to take Jagr off the Caps hands. Are the Caps paying Jagr 5 million a year, Yes. But people forget that they save 6 million a year with the deal.

You also have to consider that the Caps shipped Carter soon after to LA to get Aulin.

So at the end of the day the Caps save 6 million dollars a year. And they got a good young player in return in Aulin. And got rid of a player who has lead this team downhill ever since he got here

So how was this a bad deal for the Caps?

The Rangers get Jagr at a price that is very fair. 6 million dollars a year for a player of his quality is good value. They give up a guy in Carter who was doing nothing for them. Where Jagr has been very good for the Rangers since being aquired.

I don't think it was what the Rangers needed. But at the same time they def got a great player for a guy who was playing horrible for them. And they got him for a good price.

So I don't see how it was that bad of a deal for the Rangers either.
