Near the end of the movie, there is an amazing scene in the Frozen Orange Juice Commodity "pit" where people mindlessly stampede the price up, until at the right moment, Aykroyd and Murphy become buyers and start snapping up the good deals while the initial fools eventually went broke.
Thinking of the Habs and Gainey tonight reminded me of that. Gainey watched as utter fools bid certain prices up to ridiculous levels only now he has the resources to profit from their stupidity.
Right now, I don't want Hossa on a long-term deal. We can afford a VERY EXPENSIVE one-year deal, however. About $10M actually. If it works out to be Sundin, then great!
But if not, then that's ok. We start the season already better than last year, and we can add useful parts by trading for assets during the year if need be.
Calm and cool like Winthorpe and Valentine, not desperate like the Duke Brothers.
Unlike some of the free agents out there this post is priceless.
There are a few teams that just refuse to pull themselves up out of the quicksand (Leafs, Isles, I'm talking about you) and this has to be the year of the bizarre contract.
Guys like Streit and Finger won the lottery today. That's the only way to describe it.
