I don't think Gillis has to have addressed the top-six gaps in order to categorize his bottom-six and depth signings as bad. I like the moves Gillis has made thus far; Baumgartner is a good experienced AHL and NHL journeyman defensemen. He can play shifts at the NHL level without embarassing himself(most times), and is a damn good AHL player and a leader at that level who can help with some of the young defenders in Winnipeg--Ellington, Rahimi, and so on.

I don't think this move AT ALL prepares us to deal any of our top-six defenders, as Baumer is simply a depth signing; our "Fitzpatrick, Weaver" type guy.
