Nevermind the fact that Jagr's salary would've been both of theirs combined and so you could've pretty forgotten about signing any "help" for him.
Also nevermind the fact that the Rangers entire offensive game plan revolved around whether Jagr was on his "A" game and whether teams were incapable of throwing their resources at one main player.
Fact of the matter is that if a guy is going to make that kind of money and have the entire offense run through him, he's got to be more than a 25 goal, 70 point player who's offensive has decreased by 40% over the last two years.
At this point you're better off signing those two guys rather than putting your eggs in one basket. Two years ago probably not, but this isn't 2006 and Jagr isn't breaking any Ranger records.
