I had believed that somehow Jagr would be back in New York even after yesterday's events, but given he's now signed with Avangard Omsk, that speculation can finally be put to rest. Funnier things have happened in sports business and I've seen it happen, that's why I had not closed the door on any scenario until now.

If you noticed, very few teams really considered signing Jagr and a lot why is what I stated (age, production and money). Given that he wasn't coming back to the Rangers and no other NHL team swooped in to sign him, he would've been an idiot to not take the Avangard Omsk offer.

Unfortunately, the Rangers will open next season in the Czech Republic without the draw of Jagr and Martin Straka for the fans there to see. But, the fact the Rangers are an Original Six high profile team should be enough for them to pack in their building and enjoy some NHL hockey.
