so he's going to go back to TO ... or more realistically he'll go and play against his divisional rivals - all for 3 million less per year.
I'm not as confident in your end of story fairytale. I think if Demitra does sign... there is a very good chance Sundin will sign with the Canucks.
He'll be a Captain... which is what he should be - whereas in Montreal he'll be second/third fiddle. I think he's too proud of that. And the way TO has handled him at the trade deadline.... plus, the messy situation of demoralising his teammates with buyouts and threats to waive NMC... I could see him moving on - and why not go to a team in the western conference + with 4 swedish teammates + a world class goalie + a top defense .... not to mention a Jack Adams coach that would love to play Sundin as his lead man.... and have the Sedin's taking second-line matchups.
$$$ talks and you show me any player that has walked away from 3M per year to play somewhere else.... not to mention - he's now married... and I'll bet his wife will be supportive of him in choosing Vancouver.... away from the TO circus. Not to mention that Vancouver has a bit of appeal with the Olympics coming - and I'm sure Sundin would like to play one last Olympics. (not sure on that one... but if he does - he might get a shot at a CUP as well)
