It also assures Florida of possibly making the playoffs now, but ruining what may become the best nucleus of players in the league in 2-3 years. They need Stephen Weiss more than they need Ryan Smyth. For the Cats, they can put their eggs in two baskets when it comes to a Smyth-like player as they have Nathan Horton and Anthony Stewart.

All Florida needs to do is trade Kristian Huselius, get a young defenseman in return, and just wait for their core group of players to develop. The team will be deadly in two or three years.
