Precisely. And just like any other open market, this one is going to bring more efficiency.

For years (since the end of the WHA), the NHL has had it easy, enjoying a monopoly on top tier pro hockey in North America and a virtual monopoly on the global supply of hockey talent.

But those days are apparently over, a new kid is on the block. For years, the NHL has been able to tolerate having, IMHO, a fool running the store. Maybe now the NHL owners realize that changes are needed if the NHL is to remain the undisputed best hockey league in the world. We'll see.
