He doesn't has much leverage to demand more. He was slightly better than last season, but still far from his usual game. In fact, he was quite easily Dallas' 6th best defenseman this year (Boucher, Zubov, Numminen, Klemm, Sweeney).. But, Sydor was in a simular position and look how he turned out, only difference is that Sydor never had such a serious injury as Richard had, an injury that turned him into 50% of his fullest potential. I am not sure whether he will ever recover completely, his situation is not much different than Hatcher actually. Once a great shutdown defenseman but their style has taken their toll. They've become injury prone, not as physical anymore, even more slower, just not the type you'd feel comfortable with.
I say there's about a 20% chance the Stars will attempt to re-sign him, and considering the Stars lack of defensive depth, it speaks volumes on Matvichuk's recent play. You should look elsewhere, Matvichuk isn't worth žth of his current salary.
