Really, the only reason the Stars dressed him for many games was because they had to. If the Stars had anyone else that could play, Matvichuk would have been a nightly scratch.
His mental game has gone to hell. He panics when the puck is on his stick which leads to numerous turnovers. His physical game has mostly dried up because his positioning is way off. He also is no longer the shot blocking asset he once was. He's now more likely to go down for a block at the wrong time allowing the attacker to skate around him with ease.
He had a bad leg break whick ruined the previous year, though his skating was back up to speed this season. But, for some reason, his game went to crap. The good news is it's all mental meaning he can still physically play the game. Of course, that's also the bad news because that's a hard thing to fix. Hopefully, he'll find Sydor's sports psychologist and get his head right with game.
