Actually Cloutier got us a high draft pick in what was seen as a deep draft. The fact the Rangers didn't get a player with that pick is their own fault and a whole new story.

As for BPA, it's what just about every team does unless they are stacked somewhere. However in this case, I hardly consider the Rangers stacked at any position. Blackburn and Lundqvist are great young players, but one is overseas and the other is coming off what turned into a major injury. At the key thing to remember is that the position your stacked in today, you're suddenly lacking tomorrow. Two years ago the Rangers had no room at center, now suddenly they could use one. Bottom line is that is the precise reason you draft the best player available {or BPA for short}.

Having said that, Montoya being on the Rangers short list is NOT just espn being ESPN. It's also not just the Rangers blowing smoke either. They are high on the kid and they do like. Now whether or not they take him really depends on who is still out there when they pick.
