It's well known that Mark Messier narrowly beat Ray Bourque for the Hart trophy in 1990 by a narrow margin (227 vs 225 voting point). I've finally found a published source that suggests "suspicious" voting:
"Messier nosed out Boston Bruins defenseman Ray Bourque in the closest vote in history for the award... Surprisingly, six hockey writers left Bourque off their ballots, which made the difference in the voting... "That's a joke", Mike Milbury said. "They'll have to do something about the system"."
This doesn't tell us anything new, but it's good to have a source for this controversial vote.
