As for acquiring...if he were acquired, it wouldn't really be a replacement for Barnaby as Wiemer is a center. He's somewhat needed - he brings energy, he hits, and he can pot the odd goal. On the negative side, he's not that strong on faceoffs. The Rangers currently aren't too strong at center with Holik basically being the only NHL center (I guess Mike Green will fight it out and who knows where Lundmark ends up, but to me, he's a winger). So the Rangers really need a top centerman, a third line centerman (calling Holik second because if he does go against top lines, he will get a lot of ice time), and a fourth line center with Green and some AHL players fighting it out for the three 'open' center positions. Wiemer may not be great, but perhaps he should be considered.
