I disagree. By that time the Habs had lost Pollock, Bowman, Dryden, and Lemaire, they were showing the effects of several years of indifferent drafting, and the Islanders as well as the Oilers were coming on strong.

My nominee since 1980 would be the team that lost to the Flames in the 1989 finals.
