Interesting trade.

I think Ottawa is more likely to 'win' this trade, as Shannon is younger and I think he does have some top-6 potential if he can find the right situation where he can get some icetime with solid players.

However, that doesn't mean this isn't a good trade for us. Shannon wasn't going to see any icetime here with the addition of Krog and Wellwood and the development of Grabner, so it was hard to see where he fit. Nycholat is a much better organizational fit, either as the 8th defender playing in Manitoba or as a #7 guy if we move another defender in a trade for a forward. This seems quite likely given his contract status.

Good luck to Shannon, seemed like a good guy. Did we just trade our only player with a Stanley Cup ring?
