One more thing: It's great to have a team of balance unless you're interested in winning a Cup. Without stars there is no Cup or at least they occur very rarely without bonafide stars. Without Jagr, the only current star is Lundqvist and while it's nice to have a great goalie because they can get hot, unless you have great forwards and/or defensemen, you can forget about Lord Stanley.
It's no coincidence that Pitt and Det made it to the Finals because both have some great players. Detroit's seconday players are probably as good as the Rangers front line players.
Actually, at forward you really only need one major scoring star to win a Cup, as the Ducks and Hurricanes both proved. Erik Staal and Teemu Selanne. The rest of those teams were about balance. If Gomez can net 90+ points this year, I think we'll have the right kind of makeup offensively. That obviously depends on the ability of the guys around him.
