They do in Russia. In the Czech Extra Liga, they do not. I'm sure there are other where only a primary assist is awarded, but Russia is not one of them.

EDIT: The Russian Ice Hockey Federation posted the box score from the game. They do not credit Cherepanov with an assist.

Look at the scores and click the little tab next to the game that says "eng." You can click the other one if you can read Russian, haha.
