Anyways... an elite passing defenseman (not MA Bergeron ) is extremely useful to any PP. Anyone can shoot the puck from the point. Salo does has an exceptional shot but someone who can dish the puck well on the powerplay is more valuable then a solid point shot in my opinion.
you see so many PPs run from the half boards nowadays, that having the elite passing dman isnt as important as having the big blast, imo. you need that big blast to keep that top guy from collapsing too aggressively on the puck.

but what we do need is that guy that can skate the puck through the neutral zone and get set up in the offensive zone. That's what kills us too often. we get the puck deep in our own zone then lolly gag it into the neutral zone with no speed. that elite passing dman can create that speed with a good first pass, but I'd rather have the speedster that can get the puck through three zones by himself, and has the offensive instincts to jump in back door and to aggressively retrieve errant pucks in the offensive zone. of course every team in the league wants one of those, and you can't exactly find them between the couch cushions.
