Gainey's getting pretty good at buying low and selling high. For every Beauchemin-type miscue, there are at least two, three deals weighted in the Canadiens' favour.

Combine that with consistently high-quality work by Timmins, and the team's progress appears inexorable. Very few really flashy deals, but a few well placed tweaks here and there.

It's fun to watch GM Bob Gainey work and behold the results.

If I were a GM I would not want to discuss a trade with Gainey (and please let's not mention the Ribs trade..., so tired of that *****...Gainey usually gets rid of the right amount of garbage to improve the HABS: Ribs, Theo, Dagenais, etc).

Or the Balej for Kovalev trade
