It's basically a given that Clarke has to re-sign a playmaking centre. There's all kinds of cash laying around without the $5 mil committed to Recchi and the 4ish that was committed for Zhamnov. We buy out Amonte and Leclair and save long-term cash there. No Timander, no Malakhov, no Lapointe. I like Glen Murray, especially to play on a 2nd line with Knuble again, but it could pay to bring in someone with more speed and pure offensive skills. In either case, when Clarke says that we can't afford it, I think it's a load of bull. I don't agree with letting Recchi walk, especially when he was willing to take a pay cut. He may have lost a step from past years, but he was still the team's leading scorer, not to mention a fan favourite and a good locker-room guy.
I guess I'd rather that Clarke played cautiously with the CBA on the forefront, but I'm getting a little sick of his Chicken Little routine.
