Joe Thorton is an elite player in the NHL, he has size, he's tough, he will drop the gloves if he has too and has been consistently near the top of the total points in the NHL for a few years.

Jason Spezza has some of those qualities but not all, not yet anyway. Spezza has tremendous offensive potential, no doubt about that and could be better than Thorton has been. But he is no where as tough and doesn't have the presence or intangibles yet of a Joe Thorton, he may even be considered another soft Senator.

It's an interesting comparison, one has reached his potential while the other is still struggling to to break out.
