Many people on this board agree he is not improving and living up to his potential.
1) You can't just take out one game like that....
For example being A PPG player doesn't mean you score 1 point every game, it means that is your average... if you take it out when a guy has a 3 or 4 point night that is completely misrepresenting their season stats.... if you took out all of Ovechkin's three or four point nights last year and said...
He only scored 50 points in 65 games or something like that you'd be totally misrepresenting his season too.
2) He's a 21 year old 3rd liner... If you expected 60+ points this year perhaps its your expectations that need to be re-adjusted, not Sergei's play. He's still developping and if he scores 41pts in 82 games this year that would be decent for him... anything more than that is gravy. Look at the number of top prospects from his draft class who aren't even in the NHL yet; and this guy was a 7th round pick.
Honestly people expect every player to be like Crosby and rip up the league at 18 years old. You do realize that it takes time for young players to develop, but you have to have patience. He shows flashes of his skills... the goal in columbus... the pass to Higgins last night (watch the replay again... 99% of players in the league would have shot in that situation... but he showed outstanding vision to make that play). Very similar to a slap pass that markov threw to Koivu earlier this year that resulted in another open net goal.
