the flyers treated downie as if he was another AHL player and may have messed his progress, or maybe he was so slow and couldnt keep up defensively and thats why Downie got fourth line mins. Last year he played a couple of games and his confidence didnt change. He only went back and tore up the Q's playoffs. Giroux wouldnt get fourth line mins like downie would get and hed also get experience by playing with better linemates. Calling him up for 5 or 6 games wont destroy his career. If anything having players play in the AHL all year could hurt his confidence. Look at Bobby Ryan...he was stuck and now he cant even play bec the Ducks are financially strapped.
