I may start watching weather reports
Needless to say, my power just came online, as I was writing this message.
1998, I was in the then First American Center, downtown right before the storm, but was lucky enough to make it to my office which was in the PS garage building, offices. We watched USPS boxes blowing down the street like they were paper, then decided we best hit the basement, a few seconds later all the glass on the first level blew out. That building was shaking like a leaf. The partition glass walls in the basement were vibrating so much they sounded like saw blades, for those that don't know this building it's a 12 story building the basement and first level are offices the next 11 levels are all parking garage, steel and concrete.
