f)Gainey won't do this, Cammalleri is a good player but not that good and do you know hoe many UFA Gainey has already?
...Question for you : Would you trade Higgins for Cammalleri?
Ok two things, this proposal is heavily favored for the Habs BUT this doesn't mean that I would do it (due to financial reasons).
Now let's get onto things.
Cammalleri is an offensive threat, he is not going to have to be good defensively if we do not use him in defensive plays (i.e PK and such). We have enough good defensive forwards.
He had a 80 points season with the Los Angeles Kings, I can tell you his UFA value is higher then Plekanec that's for sure.
Both player are about the same size, and Cammalleri has 22 points less then Plekanec with 18 less games played in 07-08. He wasn't playing with the top best PP in the league and neither with a "on fire Kovalev".
Cammalleri's attitude is beside the point. Look Ribeiro had an attitude and he kinda turned out to be a great first line center? Deal with the attitude, especially when it's a great player you're talking about.
And now I ask you :
Would you refuse to trade Kovalev for Getzlaf?
And yes, I would give Higgins for Cammalleri, because both players are underachieving and since his first season and lower body injury, Higgins has yet to prove the claim of the great goalscorer that he is. And it solves my problem at center, going down with : Cammalleri, Koivu, Plekanec, Lapierre/Chipchura... not bad. Who is Cammalleri going to eat out? Kovalev's money.
